Along with the Kern River and lots and lots of oil wells, Kern County boasts some excellent motorcycling roads, including Hwy 58, one of Pashnit.com's "Top 5 California Motorcycle Roads." Not all of these rides are strictly IN Kern County, but all of them start in Kern County and each is only a day trip.
